About the Role:
This position requires a high level of expertise in payroll processing, compliance, and communication. The Payroll Accountant will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll, compliance with relevant laws and regulations. This position requires a balance of technical expertise, leadership skills, local payroll process proficiency, and a commitment to maintaining high standards in payroll processing.
Main Responsibilities:
Payroll Processing:
- Oversee the end-to-end payroll processing cycle, including collecting and verifying timekeeping information, calculating wages, and ensuring accurate deductions and withholdings.
- Execute payroll runs on a regular schedule, ensuring timely and accurate disbursement of salaries and wages to employees.
- Address and resolve payroll discrepancies and issues in a timely manner.
Compliance and Regulations:
- Stay abreast of local, state, and federal payroll regulations and ensure that payroll processes comply with relevant laws.
- Implement and update payroll policies and procedures to align with changing regulations.
- Prepare and submit payroll-related reports to regulatory authorities as required.
Accounting & Financial Operations:
- Handle daily accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial records.
- Perform AP, AR, and Fixed Asset (FA) management.
- Manage month-end and year-end closing processes and VAT tax filing.
- Assist with statutory and tax audits, working closely with auditors.
Audit and Reconciliation:
- Conduct regular audits of payroll data to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with internal and external auditors during payroll audits.
Technology and System Management:
- Utilize payroll software and systems to streamline processes and enhance efficiency.
- Work closely with IT to implement system upgrades and improvements.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to payroll systems.
Reporting and Analysis:
- Generate and analyze payroll reports to support decision-making and strategic planning.
- Provide insights into payroll trends and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency.
Other Duties:
- Work collaboratively with internal teams to improve payroll and accounting processes.
- Perform any other ad-hoc duties as required by management.
The Successful Candidate:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Several years of experience in payroll processing.
- In-depth knowledge of payroll regulations, tax laws, employment law, and compliance requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in payroll software (ideally Dakar) and MS Office applications, with advanced Excel knowledge.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to maintain accuracy while performing assigned tasks and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
